WESG HISTORY

World Electronic Sports Games (WESG) is an championship tournament, it's unique in that all teams must be composed of playerscof the same nationality to emphasize national pride and takes place every year since 2016. WESG was established as an international esports tournament by Alibaba Sports.

The competition differs greatly from that of other commercial tournaments, emphasizing on national pride, and encouraging fans to partake in the competition. 

 The first WESG tournament was held in Changzhou (China) in 2016 and included 4 disciplines: Dota 2, CS: GO, Starcraft 2 and Hearthstone. The total prize pool was $5,500,000. The winners of the first WESG are Team EnVyUs (CS: GO), TNC (Dota 2), TY (Starcraft 2) and PHA | Staz (Hearthstone).

Despite being called WESG 2017, the second event took place in March 2018 and had a $5,500,000 prize pool. This time event was held in Haikou (China). For WESG 2017, it was decided to add competition in CS:GO and Hearthstone for the female part of the gaming community. WESG 2017 was larger than a previous event through an increased number of countries and top-tier participants. 

The winners of the WESG 2017 are Fnatic (CS:GO), Russian Forces (CS:GO Female), Team Russia (Dota 2), JAGW | Maru (Starcraft 2), RB | Fujitora (Hearthstone) and GLHuiHui (Hearthstone Female).
